Anyone know why the AMA is no longer celebrating September as Women in Medicine month even though they are the ones who designated it as such? Is it too woke to care about women now if you’re a medical organization?

Ah, give them a break. Look how forcefully they are speaking out for science, women’s health, children’s health, the marvels of research and modern medicine. The cowardly privileged can only do so much.
DEI is woke.
It's possible they're having internal events and sending emails out on their listserve but not posting it publicly out of fear from the feds. Disappointing if so
Um, yes, it is too woke. They so desperately want to elevate us and protect us in bathrooms, and if we have 6 or more children. Otherwise, not so much.
You asked about WIM month from the AMA… WPS sponsored September Women in Medicine Month webinar! September 24, 2025, 1pm EDT-2pm EDT . theme is - Women in Medicine Leading in Digital Health. The Future is FemTech: Women Shaping Digital Health". Register: zoom.us/webinar/regi... . #WIMMonth #WPS
Thanks, Theresa. Do you know if they are going to have anything on their site or write anything about WIM for the month? Or is that webinar the totality of activities as far as you are aware?
Looks like that is the main event. The Women in medicine Legacy foundation also has an event and AMWA gives its Inspirational Physician awards during September as well. The WPS chair is Eliza Choi and she has a chair newsletter that outlines the Sections activities.
Got it, thank you!
This is a genuine question—does anyone know why there is no trace of WiM month for 2025 on the AMA’s site?
Serious answer: perhaps avoiding appearance of “DEI” in current political climate?
This is my suspicion. Just wondering if it’s true.
They lack backbone? And it’s great timing considering RFK Junior wants to get rid of the HPV vaccine. So when cervical cancer rates go up they can look back at these moments.
It’s possible they will still put something up, I suppose. But sad to see if not
Between that and getting rid of Covid vaccine. yikes
Yes. The answer is yes. A friend teaches & her student was removed from their program because their grant covered bio diversity of plains insects. It said diversity, so it was canceled mid semester. If there is govt funding & it has a key word, it's deleted indiscriminately.
I assume because of the word ‘women’. I left the AMA decades ago when I realized how political they were, and I’m not referring to their PAC.
When they chose to give an award to Senator William Frist, MD after he had been making medical comments about a comatose women in Florida based on video he watched I thought he deserved to lose his license. But he was a potential future presidential candidate so he got an award and I left the group.
That is sound decision-making. I’ve never been a member.
I was very involved in school and at one pointed headed the Pennsylvania Medical Student Section. But like too many organizations it went too far in its advocacy for doctors over patients.
