Excellent article. My family & I realized early that we’d hv to follow the science & instead of listening to what we were hearing. It’s paid off bc we are going into year 6 without having caught Covid. We still wear N95s in indoor public spaces even if we’re the only 1s.
You can do all that and still be infected by the virus. I have immune issues and am a certified infection control nurse; I'm also a masker. I've been gifted the virus 4 times by science deniers. All it takes is one little gap in your mask. I can't wear N95s, but I do wear KN95s.
I’m sorry that happened. We wear 3M Aura N95s. They have a great seal & are also adjustable so as to fit your face so that there are no gaps. They’ve worked really well for us.
I have nerve damage in my face,so I can't wear a mask with straps going around my head. It causes a level of pain you couldn't imagine. In addition, the straps, staples, and nose bar of N95 masks contain rubber and metal; I have an anaphylactic reaction to latex. I'm really glad you've been lucky.
Wow, sorry to hear that. How do you wear your KN95 since the straps can’t go around your head?
Ha! I’m so used to the ones around my head that I forgot about the ear loops. There aren’t any comfortable N95s that you can use? Or do they all have the materials that irritate you?
First of all, I'm allergic to latex. Secondly, the loops that go around my head put pressure on my face, where I have permanent nerve damage from 25 years of abuse. Putting pressure on my face means pain. I can't even sleep on that side. It's been this way for 20 years.
Possibly of interest: the CA-N95 standard allows for ear loops. Not US certified IIRC but IDK how much that means these days... There's also the new Q100 standard which requires low flow resistance. CanadaMasq makes a good Q100 respirator with ear loops and I can confirm low breathing resistance.
