I made an 11,000 mile bucket-list trip across the US back in 2013. I stopped at a Cracker Barrel in Monroe, Louisiana which was jam-packed. Went to a catfish restaurant instead. I suspect I didn't miss anything.
I ate at a Cracker Barrel once. Our plane landed late & it was the only restaurant still open. We did not care anymore.
I couldn't figure out what the big deal was about Cracker Barrel after I tried it for the first time. But then I was driving from Indiana to Texas and made the mistake of stopping at a Bob Evans. Nothing but Cracker Barrel from there on out.

Generally my experience, cracker barrel means getting some comfort food, then relaxing while browsing the shop for some good candy and gifts. I personally don't give a shit what the sign looks like, or any other stylized branding. They could make the place look like a Starbucks for all I care.
That said, I'd rather it look like a Books A Million if they were to go with a modern sophisticated look.
While this is mostly true for this particular demographic, I lived in the south long enough to know that for far too many, it's a legit destination.
