I hope that Lil Nas X gets the help he needs. He's got talent coming and going, but the most talented of people sometimes need help and sometimes that very celebrity can keep them entrenched in an illness that could kill them. /1

And mental illness is--don't deny it--still stigmatizing. And rapidly becoming illegal, thanks to ICON (Idiot Captain Orange Narcissist). And men of color are suffering the most. Wether congenital or trauma-induced, there are real people suffering here. /2

You may not be able to identify who is mentally ill; many learned how to dissemble to fit in. Not all are like my cousin who lived on the streets for years until doctors found the right cocktail for him. But he had family who fought for him even when his schizophrenia took him to dark places. /3

I guarantee you know someone who is mentally ill. It is up to them to share that with you. But know that inside the craziest, most filthy person is a tortured human being. My cousin was like that. He is a hero to me. /4

He endured screaming voices he could not escape and public censure for years. The strength it took to survive cannot be quantified. He is now a sweet, beautiful, chain-smoking, damaged man. There are many people like my cousin who will never get the help they need. That is heartbreaking. /Fin
