I have no problem with Jewish people. What Israel is and is doing is insane and claiming “well this is my ethnicity through religion” is ridiculous.

You do have a problem with Jewish people if you don’t let Jewish people define their own ethnicity. Think about the fact that Jewish peoplehood is older than the concept of religion you’re using. Think about the fact that Jewish peoplehood is older than the concept of statehood you’re using.

I don’t understand how a black Jewish person in the US is the same ethnicity as a white Jewish person from Poland.

Your first step should be to stop using US norms. 1) skin color isn’t a boundary within Judaism. 2) Jews weren’t (and in most cases still aren’t) ‘white’ in most of Europe. Hope this helps.

You not understanding it doesn't make it not true. Ethnicities are self-defining. A major part of the definition of Jewish ethnicity is being in relationship with Judaism in a meaningful way.

If you can’t seperate yourself from Zionism because of religious (yes choice) affiliation then what are we even doing here? Are you not a person?

I, personally, do not identify myself as a Zionist. A lot of people in my congregation with exactly identical politics to mine so identify as Zionists. Not for religious reasons - their religious beliefs are largely what lead them to opposing Israeli State actions, despite identifying as Zionists.

The issue is not that it's hard to separate from Zionism for reasons of religious affiliation, it's that it's hard to separate from Zionism when you know *exactly* how many of your relatives are only alive because of Israel's inception, and that those relatives still don't have somewhere else to go.

And because I know you're already slobbering over how I only care about Jewish safety - that is not, in any way, what I said. I care about Palestinian safety, and I care about Jewish safety, and I will not trade one for the other, and you shouldn't either.
