Somebody explain like I’m four years old. Is it just the blocked streets? I assume that’s what the minus signs mean?

It's gates into Walter Reed that are closed. Because it is a military base on a holiday weekend. This is normal. You can check gates hours online.
It means the streets that are normally open in the vicinity of WRNMMC have been closed. People are speculating that the Secret Service ordered them closed so that they can get Trump to the hospital if his health degrades.
Continuing with the theme of “forgive me, I’m stupid,” wouldn’t they just bring him over on Marine One? Surely they can fit a stretcher on that thing?
I think it’s nonsense. I checked google maps after seeing this and only saw one closure. And of course they’d bring him by helicopter anyway, as you say.
FWIW, the two other times I can think of that he was taken to Walter Reed for urgent medical care (when he had COVID & when he had a medical emergency that I think may still be undisclosed 5 or 6 years later), they seemed to have taken him in The Beast.
I could have sworn he went in Marine One for the Covid hospitalization, but I’m wrong a lot.
Now that you mention I may be thinking of when he came home. The 'mystery visit' was said to have been by ground transport, though.
I don't remember.
FWIW, Apple Maps shows those roads closed right now.
they might close the roads in the immediate vicinity of the hospital as a security measure. I'd want to control terrain within 500 meters of the facility, 360 degrees and keep surveillance on everything within 1000 meters on the side where the President's suite is.
That, to me, makes more sense— obviously I’m just going by the map as I’m half the country away but I’m not sure I see a benefit in a “get him there faster” sense to closing that small group of roads.
They have vehicles with equipment ready to go at the White House. I don't know how long it takes to get Marine One there from Andrews. Also, Secret Service could just close the roads in the immediate vicinity of the hospital as a security measure even after flying him in. I honestly don't know.
Also it genuinely never occurred to me that M1 was housed at Andrews and didn’t just live at the White House.
There's other posts saying they close those entrances to WR on holidays... I cant go to bed with joy of irony thinking he bit on Labor Day if it isn't true.
I could see why they'd do that. Reduced force on the holiday.
But Google Maps shows it being a 30 minute drive (probably closer to 15 if the roads are closed and you're hauling ass) so I would assume they'd chopper him over as you suggested. This is all idle spitballing, but a boy can hope, can't he?
You’d think there might be a closer hospital than 10 miles away on low speed, high risk surface streets. Like maybe George Washington, a mile away. It’s not like GW isn’t a critical care, high level teaching hospital.
I think people are just finding a way to vent their... hopes and dreams. I say to myself at least weekly: He's a 79-year-old morbidly obese man with apparent dementia and congestive heart failure (the ankles). He'll die soon enough. They gotta bury him somewhere. And I gotta shit at least daily.
He is also on some seriously heavy duty cardiovascular drugs that aren’t indicative of a future nonagenarian like his parents.
Yeah. And it’s a fair reversal; they’ve gaslight so much, the Magaset can get some on their plate, too. Though Walter Reed has been the primary for presidents for most of my life, which I never questioned until I looked at the geography, and that seems… problematic in an emergency.
The White House Medical Office is very very well staffed and equipped. Including for medical emergency care. He's basically living at an emergency room that can do initial stabilization.
Yeah, but some people just wanna get the vapors
True, and has been state of the art for over a century now. (Alice Roosevelt Longworth once realized at a WH dinner that she was in the room where she had her appendix removed while her father was President. And Alice being Alice, blurted it out.)
Love this!
Well, the old Walter Reed was in Washington NE. It's where I did my clinicals in Surgical Tech school. It was a straight shot up 16th or 13th. They shut it down and built a new hospital at Bethesda, MD on the Naval Medical Center and made it a Joint Base.
That explains a LOT, actually.
Heh. I was no more than a few minutes away from checking directions. Either way, yes, let’s all hope.
Wait, I thought Trump Deathwatch was a Saturday night gig. I’m unprepared for this round, I’ll be honest.
I'm my little corner, it's a daily thing.
