In France, they went pre-election-coalition to stand a chance against "conservatives" and capitalists. Don't know how to put it into practice in UK parliamentary or county elections but should be possible too, no? German Greens are deeply convinced of capitalism & neoliberalism. Bad for planet & us.

It is also worth looking at the example in The Netherlands where the Green Left party and the traditional Labour party formed a formal coalition - greatly improving its total votes which is much more than the sum of the parts. Members decided to now formally merge:

And this happened in a pure PR system where two smaller parties forming a coalition should technically not have improved their joint vote tally. And yet it did. Greatly. In a FPTP electoral system the effect would be MUCH bigger.
