Perhaps needless to say, but if this affected car drivers, it would have been fixed long ago. Because it affects second-class citizens (pedestrians, people using mobility devices, etc), it's allowed to linger.

Deeply appreciate @tedraymond.bsky.social’s efforts to get an answer as to which level of government has jurisdiction for maintaining sidewalks underneath provincial highways in Ontario:

CTV News: “The City of Ottawa said in a statement that the city is responsible for maintenance of portions of roadway underneath provincial assets, including the section of Bank Street under Highway 417. The province is responsible for the rehabilitation of those assets when necessary, including bridge replacement projects.”
