Do... do people ever have to write steamy love scenes... for a grade? Like my understanding is "learning a skill officially" involves "assessment." Are fiction writers learning to write this stuff in school? Which seems terrible but the alternative also seems terrible??

I think that the missing piece here is writers groups / peer critique! It would be excruciating to write that kind of stuff for a grade, I agree.
