We all know we don’t want to lose it- we all know there will be consequences if we lose it…but I think there’s some pretty fucking distinct differences in what different communities think ‘freedom’ means.

100% and those differences and the lack of clarity about what it is and how to realize it is why this hasn't been a "unified country" for centuries. Only now are we beginning to get the clarity that not everyone wants the same things or desires to get them in the same ways (or for the same reasons)
There’s some pretty fucking huge differences between my understanding of public health and RFKs understanding.
And the really complicated stuff starts when I recognize that there’s some pretty significant differences between my understanding of public health and my neighbor that has the ‘we believe science is science’ sign up all thru beginning of Covid.
Science is science is about the same thing as ‘keep politics out of science’ to me. I DONT agree science is neutral and I DONT believe public health is capable of being ‘neutral’ and I don’t believe it should be.
I think public health MUST recognize the disparities in outcomes between pregnant white people and pregnant black people. The funding that did that was some of the first clawed back by RFK.
As we reclaim and rebuild our public health system, we have to recognize that what’s at stake is that they used what has saved public health to destroy it.
That is- the same public health doctor that conducted experiments on the black men at Tuskegee? Did the same thing to Guatemalans. That (and a TON of organizing by esp black and woc feminists) led to restructuring public health around informed consent.
But now RFK is running around justifying the dismantling of ‘DEI’ public health based on ‘experimental testing’ as if informed consent doesn’t exist?
And as if the only possible response to egregious experimental testing (if we agree that’s actually a situation, which is been proven repeatedly it’s NOT in RFKs arguments) is dismantle and defund all public health forever with no meaningful replacement at all?
