The whole idea was that the kingdom was coming soon so there’s no point in dealing with mortal concerns like starting families or building wealth. Hence the emphasis on giving away your riches to the poor and spreading the gospel (“the good news”).

I feel like giving to the poor only makes more sense the longer the poor are going to be around

I kinda feel like “lilies of the field” has a very different message than “I mean since the apocalypse is definitely coming you might as well give it all away for good place points”
