Denying people life-saving medical care is deplorable – and it also passes costs onto providers and local, state, and county government. It also undermines public health initiatives here in Minneapolis, programs that keep our residents safe and healthy.
We deserve a community where everyone has access to quality and inclusive healthcare. In the face of the heartlessness of the federal government, we are going to need innovative, collaborative leadership to meet this moment.
The first project I ever worked as a congressional staffer in 1993 was to try to pass legislation that would expand public healthcare. I continued to work on protecting Medicare and Medicaid until we passed the ACA, which almost doubled the number of people in those programs.
I’ve been working on healthcare policy and programming since I was 23 years old both here and in DC, and I am ready to bring together state and county partners, providers, and non-profits to ensure our residents have what they need to thrive.
