Jack Benny and Carole Lombard lead a Polish theater troupe in Nazi-occupied Warsaw who stumble into a deadly spy plot. Lubitsch’s direction is as sly and sophisticated as anything in the Sturges catalogue, and the film’s audacious humor and sense of timing are right in his wheelhouse.
