The Republicans can do what they want to blame them. It's obviously not true. This government is illegitimate and it is being weaponized by a rapist, fascist, insurrectionist with the intent of murdering/imprisoning/torturing its own people.

Both options are bad for Ds. I'm not saying they should give Trump what he wants but I don't believe they will get any real concessions from a shutdown. It will be a mess with the right-wing noise machine telling tens of millions of people it's Democrats' fault. And mainstream media "both sides"

Also as far as I can tell, those shutdowns by those factions of the GOP were wildly successful since those lunatics are now running the government and enacting everything they always wanted.

They aren't running the government because of shutdowns. They are running the government because a massive right-wing communications infrastructure has been pushing their talking points on people 365 days a year for many years. The shutdowns hurt their popularity and they gained no real concessions.

I just do not agree with that at all. The people in the GOP who didn't like the shutdowns are gone or marginalized and it is explicitly because of the shutdowns and the people who liked them are doing just fine. Maybe it hurt their popularity, not enough to stop them from seizing power.

I'm saying Dems don't have a massive messaging machine to prop them up every day of the week. I don't believe they can win a messaging war over a shutdown. They will be forced to reopen the government in no better position than before. Rs didn't gain leverage over Obama through shutdowns.

Maybe that's true but I doubt it. The mainstream media and right wing media has been pumping up how awesome Trump is and he's one of the least popular presidents in american history and a majority of Americans want him impeached.

Boehner? Gone. McCarthy? Out. Not to mention the shutdowns and the debt ceiling fights actually did get them a substantial amount of concessions. Even if they weren't able to immediately defund the ACA or whatever they were saying it was about.
