the best 1930s dam around town it's still possible to mostly walk the path of the aqueduct that brought water from Maroondah to Melbourne before the main dam was built. nowadays I think all/most gets sent to Silvan first and it gets distributed to the water tanks in the suburbs from there

you can also walk almost all of the Yan Yean pipe track that brought water from Melbourne's first dam at Yan Yean to the reservoir that Reservoir is named after. less visually interesting bc it's just flat through the suburbs but the history... still in active use 170 years on

Water history is very intriguing so far

our water so delicious primarily because the water authority (MMBW) had a decades long struggle with the logging authority because they wanted to chop all the trees down, but the MMBW correctly went "the trees filter all our water. no fucking way" and eventually won, but it was real close
