Which ironically showed just how easy it would be for “the people” to succeed. Never underestimate the power of a small group of people to change the world. For indeed, it’s all that ever has.

I’d argue they didn’t change much of anything. Instead, they’ve fought for their ability to maintain power despite their waning popularity. There’s very little truly changed. It’s just that’s it’s now intentionally cruel and out in the open rather than wink-wink-nod-nod cruel behind closed doors.

Absolutely. Last I heard Trump still wasn’t doing deportations at the rate Biden was. This means that the deportations are less effective, for show, and specifically for the visible cruelty—not for the end result of upholding the law. But systemic racism isn’t new, nor is disenfranchisement.
