No one seems to want to think about the implications of this! Oh and Blair can shut up! datacentremagazine.com/critical-env...
I wouldn't be too concerned as governments could change the rules on where data is held. e.g they could sanction data held i.e off-shore making it cheaper or better access to water for cooling etc.
That's true.
Talking of corridor care, it is now accepted that how we treat patients bsky.app/profile/harm...
I reckon Starmer will ask that the corridors are reclassified as “long narrow wards”
Corridors have been used for the last 40years... This isn't new.
Great show. I've been using ai to design colouring books on amazon it's so fun 😁
Didn’t get a chance to listen today. Will look forward to catching up whilst travelling tomorrow morning 👍👊
Great show, 'Brian'...😂
Haha! I heard that too
The guy with the lost dog app is a great example of how AI isn’t going to take over everything and most peoples’ use of it is misguided. The app just needs a library of images of breeds—it doesn’t need AI to source/create an image each time a breed is mentioned and doing so is a waste of resources.
I am really old and my experience of AI is limited to some photos and videos my son made for me of my family ( long gone ) my mum died when I was 4 and to see her come to life in amazing colour 💔 made me cry ,so wonderful what technology can do
Any chance you could do Full Disclosure with Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo?
Would be easy to do an AI version of Kermode I reckon. Please make it happen!
They aren't really "Titans". Imagine standing that interview next to Miriam Margolyes,Bernie Sanders,Gary Stevenson etc.
A relative term maybe. I do look forward to it though...
Happy birthday, our maestro of sanity!
Shame I only listen on catch up. I could have got a Ray Liotta on AI ...and it's not even Thursday😁 Anyway,AI video must be your worst nightmare 🤣
😱
Ew
You absolute monster.
Actually, they're getting paid for spreading Musk's rhetoric! www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...
No idea where else to ask so - why’s the uk media so far silent on Neil gaiman?
Oh who??
Did you hear the podcast series? Full story there.
Gotcha
Hello James, love your work! I’m listening to your show on AI. I’m surprised that no one has mentioned the environmental impact of AI searches. The energy consumption & water usage, with projected use at nearly 35% of Irelands energy consumption by 2026 (UNEP, 2024). Something to be considered!
Yes but the AI companies will tell you that they are powering the data centers with renewable energy
AI is scary but inevitable. I’m an Architectural Technologist & I fully expect AI will be developed to draw up plans, sections, elevations & details for buildings, assessed & tweaked by developers until they’re happy at a fraction of the cost & time it would take for me to do it. Humans obsolete?
It already here mate, there's many apps that do that. e.g Maket, ConIX.ai, Qbiq, Test fit etc. I don't know an job that won't be heavily impacted by AI within the 5 years. And yes, every org that's using AI is doing it for "efficiency savings"😬
Cheers James. Glad to have you back. My schedule was all out of whack for my first week back at work.
Hopefully you missed Braver man and Cleverly then😬
Dodged that bullet.
When you tell the "what was it like" story, I am now almost convinced that it was actually you that asked that question, all those years ago . Almost...
Certainly on some days this is going to be a huge challenge to select the best bits for this format. I don't think it will be possible. Love the show. Keep up the good work.
AI’s revolution: prediction instead of step-by-step code. Coding is like writing TV script, every line coded in advance. AI, leverages all data online, too make probabilities, removing the need for code. This transition from code to probabilistic reasoning: AI can “figure things out” on their own.
Concern with AI. The country leading it (🇺🇸) & their woeful record on regulation, monopolies, putting profit before anything & flexible morals (Trump). Disinformation, image manipulation, information designed to hurt or kill. More monetary barriers to knowledge. Think TNT.
Not on point, but £20.00 And a week of fiddling will balance the rads x
“The underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth"
In a nutshell
Brilliant book providing facts when you argue with idiots as to what’s gone wrong in the U.K. since WW2
Lionel Blair?!
Thank you James for opening your hour on mental health with reference to Covid/Long Covid. It’s so important, the transmission via the blood/brain barrier and no one seems to be joining up the dots. We have to stop putting our fingers in our ears when it comes to Covid and the damage it’s doing..
I haven’t listed to the podcast yet so apologies if you already know that Starmer cancelled the super computer project in Edinburgh after millions had been spent getting ready for its installation
To be fair, so he should. £800M isn't value for money. AI done properly would cost many billions and then you need a network of data centers for redundancy. Many governments have tried building their own but the simply don't have the scale (or pay the wages) big tech can.
He won't talk about it. Absolute shill for Labour even when they're fucking up.
