Most of the great minds in history were very likely autistic, Newton and Kant to name only two. As far back as we can see in the human gene pool, we have produced autistic people at a consistent rate, because they are damn bloody useful for the survival of the species.

No bother at all, boet. I’m sorry to hear that. Our generation had it much harder than kids do now. My son is autistic, but his teachers get it and really help nurture his quirky intelligence, and he is doing really well. My brother, however, was just the weird kid and got bullied into his shell.

My husband has a very high IQ nearly 150 and he studied physics at Cambridge works in IT. Our son is severely autistic. He was on epilim when our son was conceived so maybe the cause can be complex part genetics but part environmental too.

The environment undoubtedly plays a role in the development of our brains, but if the environment has a casual relation with autism, then we’d see a prevalence of autism in certain regions. Instead, the prevalence seems to be within certain ethnic groups, Afrikaners and Ashkenazi Jews at the top.

Also, we’re of Afrikaner stock and my mum, 2 brothers, son and possibly grandfather are/were autistic, what would’ve been called Aspergers, and I’m a classic ADHD, so I’m inclined to believe neural divergence is genetic.

Autism is made up from over 100 genes I think so depending on what happens at conception or in utero decides what genes are expressed. And one gene 🧬 can do several things.

RFK is offensive and ignorant about science. Autism can be caused by so many things. Worryingly an article in the DM tried to claim it was cocaine. Unbelievable the nonsense that’s being spouted. Some of the biggest geniuses in history were neurodivergent Mozart, Einstein, Hawkins.

My son is severely autistic and has had his problems but he’s 21 in supported living. He has learning disabilities. He’s so funny and a real joy to be around with. He’s so into everything. He’d be unstoppable if it wasn’t for the LDs.

Me too. Autism is probably hereditary; a complex, neuro diverse condition that affects many individuals, in many varied ways. People with autism, and/or people who give support to autistic children and adults, probably know more about autism than RFK does.
