Blackberries used to be when we went back to school in early September. This year I spotted ripe blackberries last month just before the schools broke up. (I’d also seen a man peeing on that bush the day before so I didn’t pick them).

Thats expected here (in Cambridgeshire) for early varieties. But the mids are now dropping their fruit. Its all ludicrously early. Won't be much for the beasties to eat in autumn. Bumper crop of apricots on my tree earlier, and there were harvests of olives in peoples gardens this year too

Generally, more dead specimens of an insect means there are more of them around, they do die and more dead ones means there were more live ones. Not always, of course. Loads more dead wasps this year too, and you'll recall there was barely a wasp to be seen last year.

I found a dead great silver diving beetle in Cambridge last year. Great big thing, beautiful insect. Sounds depressing it was dead, but it was only the second time they've been reported in the county after being absent for 86 years. So a dead specimen can be a heck of a good sign.
