My mate Mike (Sanchez) & I grew up about a mile apart but never met irl until this night last month. If you don’t know, he’s a rhythm and blues legend (ask Robert Plant). I saw the Big Town Playboys in Kidderminster so knew who he was when he got in touch to say he enjoyed the show. Love this photo.

It's not all-encompassing, though. I was born there and can't play a thing. Webb was a natural. My pal and him were at school together and took up guitar on the same day. Pal says he was still doing cords while Stan was playing tunes. Like broadcasting James. You have it, lots dont. Keep it up.

Can remember him doing a couple of solo shows at the King & Castle absolutely yonks ago. He was brilliant. "Let's have a party and let's drink lots of beer..." Marvellous.
I was in there after the game on Saturday. We looked surprisingly tight btw. For a side that’s mostly only just met!
I couldn't go on Saturday but, bizarrely, was there a week earlier on way back from Coventry v St Pauli friendly (my German team, don’t ask). And will have a couple of Batham's there next weekend as I'm up to see my mum in Franche, who's 90 with severe MS but still going to outlast me. Bugger!

I have been lucky enough to see him several times, and one of the most authentic musical experiences out there - raw, genuine, "proper" rock and roll and rhythm and blues ... We were in the 100 Club too that night, but failed to spot the full range of "famous voices" on offer!

I saw the Big Town Playboys play upstairs at the Riverboat on Blackwell Street one Christmas in the 1980’s. One of the best and most exciting gigs I have ever seen.
