Fiction’s tendency to turn Heaven into a bureaucracy is weird. Maybe it’s because antiquity was happy to create classes of choirs and organize the laity as patriarchal institutions. But it’s weird. Like we can’t conceive of anything greater than middle manager systems.

“What if eternal bliss was structured like any given regional Chase bank?” I’d take my chances with Hell, thank you.

Did you happen to read HIGH HEAVEN from Ahoy Comics? Its premise is basically this. "What if heaven was actually... kind of crappy?"

Figured it was just a way to explain why heaven's hosts do fuck all in the world. Also likely an anti-government allegory. God of yore smited ass and resurrected motherfuckers. God today delegates everything and the world gets worse because bureaucracy is just so inefficient and ineffective. Maybe.
