I was in favor of the impeachments and the criminal prosecutions. As you say, it is an essential duty. But now without those powers at hand, I do not think theatrical opposition will help. Better to let him hold the stage and the responsibility for his results.

Pelosi has an aversion to fighting battles she cannot win. It takes 2/3 majority in the Senate to remove a president. Otherwise, the effect is to exonerate him and give him an excuse for his own failure, the attacks preventing him from doing his job.

If Paul Ryan or Nancy Pelosi had gone after Trump with the energy and determination of Gingrich attacking Bill Clinton, Trump would have been gone and President Pence inaugurated within a few months. That's what we need from the leaders of our party right now.
