It’s actually a hummingbird hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum). When I lived in Virginia our Romanian neighbors gave us some flower seeds for Romanian night lilies (don’t know the name) and the hawk-moths loved them. They even have eye shine like cats. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humming...

We had one of these in our yard in early spring this year (Northern California, about 10 miles inland) and I absolutely flipped out at seeing it. It was SO freaking cool.

I miss seeing them in my garden every morning. I moved from Colorado to Seattle and apparently they don’t have them here. Lots of hummingbirds though. Guess that’s a fair trade.

Nice! I planted several of these this year. They haven’t bloomed yet but hopefully they will attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Love this!
