They are invested in arming their base to support what comes next (a level of control which can’t be provided by the military alone). Guns are a part of their manhood narrative. They don’t care about crime when they are not the victims and their focus on crime is a straw man to legitimize the above.

Just my theory - “guns” is a political power issue masquerading as a personal liberty issue. Understanding it in that context & seeing what’s happening in the US makes the Republican relationship with guns & the gun industry make sense. Yes - we pay a very high price for “freedumb.” End of rant…
