agreed. also a typical lack of awareness re typical class differences. my fam is v much don’t ask don’t tell. extremely uncomfortable for a cousin’s spouse who was bitching about taxes at thanksgiving, when she mentioned her paychecks increasing around aug and not knowing why—
and i had to point out to her that it was likely she’d maxed out her req’d payroll tax contribution for the year (had surpassed the over 100K max taxable income) and everybody got to sit with the sudden knowledge she was pullin’ a quarter mil easy and bitching about a couple grand in add’l taxes
