They will Make Klingons Great Again!
Yeah season 2 was fun, but lacked and kind of ethical conflict, we're used to getting from Star Trek. However, I have noticed the military propaganda has risen more Trek was always military, but SNW has become an army recruitment show Season 3 has been a big disappointment so far
Cancel Paramount!! I did!
disco and lower decks were awesome. but they got canceled, so
I *really* wanted to like Disco, because I got a chance to tour the set before it aired (yes I sat in the captain's chair, no I don't have pictures) It just didn't work for me...
i watched it all the way through. i didn't care for the first season. then when i did a Rauch, i loved it in the broader context. look for the star trek ethics in the show. it's there throughout.
Ooh! I got to sit in the Defiant’s captain’s chair once! No pictures either.
They made us sign a non-disclosure agreement and confiscated our phones!
I don’t remember if there was any paperwork, but that day was in 1994 so no cell phones yet. The best part though is that we weren’t supposed to be on that stage as the tour was for Voyager and our guide snuck us in!
It killed me because Strange New Worlds premiered it's new season right as Stephen Colbert was canceled. I got to episode 2. I won't be getting to episode 3 because I deleted the app. I really hope they lose the rights to Star Trek.
Luckily they can never take what has already been made away.
Same. After I’m done watching SNW I’m just going to rewatch watch my old dvds of old Star Trek.
They just don't get Trek at all
What happened in Strange New Worlds?
I’m afraid to ask. But it’s clear the people writing it don’t actually like or understand Star Trek.
Season 2 is pretty brain dead unfortunately. Idon't have high hopes for season 3.
star trek is about RUNNING and SHOUTING and then we occasionally pay lip service to lofty ideals between PEW PEW ASPLODEY LASER BANGS
One of the episodes had M'Benga face a Klingon war enemy who became a diplomat and seemed to sincerely regret his role in the war. M'Benga struggled with it through the whole episode, but in the end he murders the Klingon. This is the enlightened future I've dreamed about since I was a kid?
Idk, how do you feel about killing war criminals? If someone pops some Nazi in hiding in SA I'm considering that a win.
A war criminal who's trying to atone for their past and has done good work? Or a war criminal who's an unrepentant piece of garbage? Two very different questions. But look, Trek is supposed to show humanity at its best. Where we've overcome petty tribalism and are working together.
I'd say that when your crimes are great enough it stops mattering, you can only be so sorry and you can only atone for so much.
While I agree, there also needs to be a path to redemption. Otherwise, there's no incentive to be better.
Luckily only a very, very small minority of shitheads are "responsible for butchering thousands of civilians" level war criminals, so I don't think there really needs to be a path to redemption for those people. At that point you're too evil to be allowed to live.
Again, not disagreeing, but what do you do if you're one of those people and you suddenly have a come to Jesus moment, so to speak? I guess you can just kill yourself, but is there any other option?
I think a lot about the guy who went from active KKK member to founding an organization that helps white supremacists deradicalize. Is what he did forgivable? I'm not a POC so it's not my place to say. But he's undoubtedly done a lot of good since then.
Did you like deep space nine? Because not everyone was always at their best on that show either
DS9 was a show about trying to hold to your ideals in the face of unimaginable horrors. They faltered sometimes, of course. But the ideals were still there.
Compare the very same episode concept done in Voyager - Neelix realizes Jetrel, the butcher, is working to undo some of the damage he did, and works through his feelings on it, forgiving Jetrel in the end. memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Jetrel_...
One of the best episodes with Neelix.
I miss watching the new Star Trek but I won't subscribe to the sellouts.
Media is at the end of a cycle. It’s like we all have seen it before. They can’t surprise us anymore. There was this golden age and then we hit overly sterile perfection of production but without a soul. I think Star Wars and Star Trek canon should be put in a box forever. Make it risky, reboot.
The conventions aren't sponsored by Paramount. I'll do my Trekking there.
The rotten apples rating is the worst I’ve ever seen
Yep Roddenberry is spinning in his grave
I'm not investing in anything from Paramountplus. No shows, specials, sports events, nada. They're dead to me
Paramount is not anymore!
Star Trek Strange News Worlds is already a disaster. Star Trek died long ago.
✊
Yeah, had to quit paramount but don’t care cuz they put out pretty crappy stuff last couple years. Have zero fucks to give a major corporation who was threatened/extorted by our OWN GOVERNMENT, capitulated, and paid a massive bribe to TRUMP’S own pockets. Fuck skydance, too! WAPO canceled today, too
I feel too jaded to enjoy it as I did even 2 years ago
I somewhat agree. S3E3 was just so, so. I want "Strange new worlds" Not Zombies and impossible escapes over and over. It all just seems so forces and tired.
I have cancelled my subscription. It did renew in April so I will have until next April so i will see all of the new season. I will miss Mob Land.
looks like Kurtzman really is out after his contract is done next year
The writing was on the wall as soon as Larry Ellison bought Paramount. I am also sad to let Star Trek go, but I can't watch as a fascist billionaire desecrates Roddenberry's vision.
You can always write your own, or look up what other fans write. If you enjoy a thing, don't let some corrupt, soulless corporation take it from you.
If a fanfic is well written I always give them a read! Fans keep franchises alive. And Star Trek fans with keep the spirit of Star Trek alive. 🖖
I’m boycotting Paramount. Period.
Agreed, the shark has been jumped.
Was going to sign up for Paramount plus because of the rugby rights but after they got rid of Colbert that idea got torched. Also deleted a couple series off my DVR since I know they factor that in (just watch it on YouTube)
