That's my take on why on the surface the reactions are different by many to the two cases. I didn't say I was pro either act of terror. A question was asked, an answer was given.
That’s an excuse for the disparity in coverage, not an explanation. It’s quite obvious that both men were radicalized by extremist ideology. If the media create a different narrative for the brown Muslim than the white Xian, it’s because the media are biased not because the cases actually differ.
Media analysis is one thing, public reception is another. Media narrative does drive the second, but not exclusively. Also, body count likely playing a role in both media coverage and positioning.
I have a crazy idea that newspapers should investigate a little beyond the surface, rather than just regurgitate back to us what we can already see on the surface.
Fair enough but newsrooms have been devastated and the industry lacks the attention to detail it used to have (not that it was ever perfect)
