police just do what they want if they feel someone is guilty of wrongthink. Arbitrarily detaining people is not what happens in a democracy. Regardless of your worldviews I'd be worried. A Reform govt might be happy to follow such a precedent by arresting anyone *they* don't like. Eg trans folks. 😜
The custody sergeant will listen to why the copper thought the arrest was necessary, if he's not convinced, it's not authorised. I don't see any wrong doing
A lot of ppl with knowledge of the law *will* see wrongdoing. It seems to have been a premeditated arrest without any legal justification. A country where anyone can be arrested and detained for 16 hours on a whim is not a democracy.
He's travelling on an Irish passport travelling into the UK with a criminality flag against him (wasn't he flying in to attend a magistrates court?) With the danger of splinter paramilitary groups still being active in Ireland, don't you want armed police to be on hand?

That's not what I said. He's not famous. He's an Irish national flying into an international airport & his name is flagged because he has an outstanding court appearance on stalking/harassment and criminal damage. The heightened response is due to historic & potentially future issues with Ireland
Not everybody who's due to appear in court gets arrested. There was nothing to indicate that he wouldn't turn up. Flying back to the UK, he was literally on his way there. 😏
