Just to add a bit of context, cats are allowed in the hallways, and it's a relatively safe place for them on my floor because there are no direct access to the street, as the stairwells are behind heavy doors. However, I'm always mindful of my neighburs who migh not like cats.

So, I only allow it, when I'm taking the trash out and closing the door behind me would be too much of a hassle with a trashbag on my lap in the wheelchair. I try to do it when it's most likely to be empty, so no one is bothered by my crotchedy old cat going for a mosey.
