They have been deprived of their chance to start a war. All it is going to take is for T do make good on some of his devastating plans, and then they will turn on him and everyone.

Sadly, No. They are not going to turn on him. Sure, a few are going to have a change of heart when things start getting real. But for the majority of his base, they will cheer it. They were ready to go to war if he lost. Now they will shift that to make sure he is enforced.

A huge part of his non-elite base depends on welfare, social security, and Medicare. And government assistance for their educational institutions. I think there is room for a revolt, but really awful things need to take place beforehand.

If the party believes they have strong mandate and overreaches, then yes they will most likely lose the midterm, maybe the presidency. My Trump supporting family doesn’t think he will do the bad things. It’s important for us to try and learn from soft supporter and build a new coalition.

New coalitions sounds like a good long term plan, but I am a little less optimistic. The one thing he doesn't lie about is his persona. I believe him when he says he is "going to be a Dictator." I do not believe that he will limit it to just one day.

I believe he will be terrible and I believe he will attempt everything he promises. I also believe that the house and senate have slime majorities that make it possible to win them back. I also, believe democrats need to do the work to win back red rural districts, especially here in Texas.

Why do they think he won't do what he promised? Isn't this like not believing in him and his word? It's really difficult to understand.

The argument is that he didn’t do all the terrible things he wanted to the first time, so he won’t the second time.

Do they understand that the party isn't the same as 2016?

One can hope, if he is visible losing his marbles and is unable to respond to a crisis, the younger ambitious GOPers will try take over.
