Historically speaking, we lived through a true golden age of professional journalism and it's sad to see it ending. But, hopefully we'll swing back before society completely collapses.

I prefer to try and be an optimist about this and view what we're seeing as a sorting of the real journalists from the posers & propagandists.

So only "real journalists" would be employed by an organization that acquiesce to a tyrant? That such pros would be fine with equality, differing opinions and fairness being excluded from the workplace?

I'm optimistic in the long view. But, history is littered with setbacks, sometimes generations long, and I'm not so optimistic I'll live to see us turn the corner on this one.

Yes but TV shows and movies and stuff. Doing what is necessary to overthrow fascism takes work, commitment, and sacrifice. There has been little evidence that any American is willing to do any of that.
