it's completely divorced from the actual context: a person who can afford it but is simply Not Doing That
But but but OP didn't list every possible exception to the implied standard in their short, humorous, reaction post on the microblogging site!
I *think* this is a bit. But it's bluesky, so who knows.
It's feel like it's gotta be a bit. The immediate preceding post talks about being invited to a $200/plate lunch spot. As a board certified Big City Urban Elite, I can't think of a single place like that. I mean, the prix fix lunch at Le Bernadin is only $135.
I feel like a bit needs to have a joke attached or else it’s just a deranged post
Hypothetical poor person who doesn’t have the agency to say, “you all go to the fancy restaurant without me.” As if they are dragging the ”auntie” kicking and screaming.
jesus christ lmao. We really are just dying to be mad at shit, aren't we
In guessing it’s a troll considering their avatar is ms paint and all
we live in a world where opportunity is gated by the menu
In the pocket of big Pre Fixe
I seem to recall in my earlier years being unable to afford many restaurants I currently frequent. Sic transit…
The FBI guys who write these kind of posts have one of the best jobs in the world. They must have so much fun.
Yeah, that's a phrase that's going to rattle around for a while
it's both the case that too much attention is paid to this problem and that over the last 8 years or so a lot of progressives brains fell out
i mean i have been this broke and the solution is to not go to dinner with your friends who compulsively eat out because they have money and don't give a fuck that you don't want to
like it sucks that your friends refuse to spend time with you unless you're spending money with them because spending money is one of their main hobbies but that's a social issue
"my family won't spend time with me unless i also spend $200" man that sucks but that doesn't seem like it's the responsibility of the person your family is trying to make you spend money with
it is also good to try to normalize rich friends treating everyone and nobody feeling bad about this / this is hard for a variety of reasons but when it works it’s very nice
When I graduated college I made more money than my friends - so i bought more rounds of drinks than my friends. Just seemed fair.
Unless I’m with people I’m pretty sure make about what I make or more, I basically always offer to pay for the tab. I’m not purely utilitarian, certainly not, but it often seems like the overall happiness and financial security maximizing thing to do so why not
"I'm a poor elderly person who cant afford the food at a restaurant but was forced to come here anyways" describes literally no one mentioned in the article lol
I’m telling myself it’s a bit
NGL I was thinking something entirely different when I saw “purse tuna”
Its so weird, mostly because the people in the article seem to be upper middle class white people who just get annoyed they dont get to dictate what is on a restaurants menu.
I would have an opinion, but me and my purse tuna can't read the article behind the paywall. I think you're being pretty cavalier about the real first-world struggles of netizens who don't want to subscribe to non-local papers to read one article. /s😛
this is such a bizarrely specific hypothetical
Why would she go to the restaurant?
It’s that very specific form of elder abuse that manifests as the forced purchase of a $23 little gem salad.
I can always count on Bluesky to introduce me to a completely deranged behavior I'd never heard of which will have people crawling out of the woodwork to defend as a serious equality issue.
I’m fairly certain they are just fucking with you now bc they don’t like you? Orrrrr…..??? Lolololol
