While it still has a combat, Renowned Explorers had an interesting twist on it. It followed a standard rock paper shotgun system, but only one of them was actual combat (aggressive). The others were 'friendly' and 'devious'. store.steampowered.com/app/296970/R... This might still be to much, and

I assume a lot of people will not be totally happy with the theme they picked for the game. (I now also noticed that this preview image is different than the small title card on steam which is missing a few characters).

how will you learn about the evils of capitalism unless the game ends with your artisan shop out of business so you die in the Satanic mill? this is disrespectful to my ancestors from Manchester

Sometimes you want a quiet slow engine builder that isn’t a Civ game

It also helps that you generally don’t have to learn how to control a camera to play them!

The camera thing is the big killer, I think. My wife only started playing video games when we were in our 20s, and she fucking hated camera controls early on. She has no problem with murdering her way through an RPG, but controlling a camera with action going on is just not her scene.

Absolutely me. I never played camera control games as a kid and the time commitment and acceptance of frustration needed to learn how to do it as an adult is way too high to spend on a like third-tier (for me) hobby.

It’s also legit hard! Surprisingly narrow field for “games that don’t involve killing but also have actual, challenging gameplay loops and aren’t just mind slop”

Dorfromantik is a super chill world building game that's easy to learn that is designed to be relaxing. Fallout Shelter is quirky fun.
