I think a lot of the right wing's spiral in the last 20 years can be explained by them replacing everything enjoyable with "getting mad", and that this is less a chart of Republicans drinking and more a chart of them not socializing as much anymore

So, it's up to me to support the beer and spirits industries.
This is just one data point but I'm inclined to think that there's a cohort that drinks alone at home and lies in their responses. fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MRTSS...
No need to lie if alcohol-using Republicans and independents are less likely to respond to surveys. Survey response rates are super low and weighting can't correct fully for them.
I think this is underrated. Polls as a tool have had a gargantuan problem since ~2010 but people want surveys to still have information in them.
Why would anyone want to drink with Republicans they're all fucking assholes.
Or, they've gone straight to ketamine.
Democrats getting booze in the national divorce?
probably also a sign of america aging
Social drinking and malignant moaning don’t mix
maga doesn’t want nice things or drinking and socializing with a better crowd. maga wants everyone else to suffer. the bigger you get mad the better.
One of the reasons the right has become so vulgar and open in its badness, I’m not gonna act like all this wasn’t already festering inside the wing, is the same reason the most inwardly angry guy you’ve met gets kicked out of bars for fighting every week
That data also looks like dogshit - the swing in dem drinking (+12%, -15%, + 10%) around 2010 is probably highly statistically improbable at -best-
It was the Farm bill of 2018 that led to less drinking.
Pretty sure they lost it and abandoned decorum after a black man was elected
Also keep in mind that drinking even a single bud lite turned them into trans democrats, so that shifted things quite a bit
I was in a small town in Nevada earlier this year and someone ordered "one of those queer beers" and was served a bud lite.
Self isolation as well
Giving up alcohol is good overall.
Replacing it with intermectin isn't
Maybe, but what he is saying is that this is in part proxying for a drop in socializing activities (e.g. parties/sporting events, etc.). Most people who drink are social drinkers. No social events, no drinking.
But do we have any stats about Republicans socialising less?
