I think the big divide on hotels is if you’ve ever traveled for work because lemme tell you - getting off work and having to go sit in the hotel or go to a bar until it’s time for bed suuuuuucks

“Oh wow! You’re so lucky. How were your trips to Malaysia, Thailand, Germany, China, Israel, Taiwan?” Me: I saw the airport, the hotel and the wafer fab.
the whole meme of "business trips mean you get back to the hotel at 6 and leave for dinner at 6:30 with the same people" is funny but then you remember that the alternative is eating alone and staring at whatever is on the Chili's bar's TV until 9.
and that 30 min break is my everything after starting with those people at 9am and sitting in a conference room all day
When I moved to Detroit I lived in a hotel in Auburn Hills for 4 months. It was hell
I would always scope out a quiet place off the lobby, then switch between there and the room for reading a book until it was time to go to bed. One place the staff got to know me and would sneak a beer or two for me every so often. Bars are too loud for me if I'm there for very long.
I am a strong advocate for all hotels that host work trips to have a sports bar overlooking an amateur league hockey rink next door, because we spent every evening closing that bad boy down and cheering for every goal, and it greatly improved the after-work drudgery
Going to bed between 7:30 and 8 when staying in a hotel on a business trip is not uncommon for me. Stay in a hotel for travel, I go out and have fun at night. For work, I’m just like “well I don’t wanna be hungover so might as well just go to bed”
Wait, hotel bars are the best! Gimme a stiff one and let me sit here in silence after a shitty day.
I like the waffles at the Hampton Inn breakfast though.
I kept going to the Boston suburbs over and over again for a few years in the teens and I got really good at finding things to do at night to stay entertained. It helped that my per diem was enough that I could eat pretty much anywhere as a non-drinking vegetarian. BUT...
...there's also a reason why I have two Boston playlists, one that is all excited that I'd listen to after landing and one that is all, "How much longer am I going to be here damnit?!?!"
I enjoy a quiet evening with a book in a good hotel bed. No chores, errands, etc.
You don’t really understand why PPV porno was popular in hotels until you’ve had a bummer of a business trip as an adult. At least it’s something to do!
this is why balatro was invented
Is there pornography in balatro?
if you get a high enough multiplier it’s usually better
Yea
Now I get why everyone loves it so much.
I get what you're saying, but do you have kids? When my kids were young and I travelled occasionally for work, it was like a vacation. Omg, a room all to myself? A meal all by myself? Heaven, lol (I understand that intense work travel would get old quickly; that was not my situation.)
Honestly it's much more the opposite. If you're on heavy travel away from your kids that can get rough and lonely fast and you end up like this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUwj...
Also ipeople just imagining *completely* different types of hotels and situations. Bouncing between different "fine" hotels with a reasonable meal allowance and flexibility to not be cooped up is a lot different than being stuck in a shitty extended stay for weeks or months.
I still think most people, when they hear someone lives in a hotel, think of like a 1930s mobster living in the Plaza and getting room service every night, while holding court, and not people living the Extended Stay off the interstate
you don't just screw around on your laptop and watch TV like any other night?
