Especially at the corporate level - Ai's been integrated into the workplace for a bit now and I think everyone's seeing rapidly diminishing returns and rising costs and wondering "is this worth it?". The promise was always AGI, and if it's just LLMs, that's a letdown.

another group in our shop built an AI agent to take a first pass through client data that they get for basically every project. Knocked off 70% of the typical phase 1 time. Great, awesome. We get paid on time worked. Didn't build the AI agents as part of a project either, so we took it both ways.

Honestly, speaking for myself, AI has been a massive time suck at my job. I have to constantly review other folks work for ChatGPT garbage AND I'm always adding like 3 extra clicks to my Microsoft and Google tasks to turn off AI when it's a distraction. The practical use cases are very narrow!

Nowadays, when my tech lead wants to tell us something, he just asks grok and then sends us the entire 4 page long response. Clearly this is helpful for everyone

The "agent" promise was badly over-blown

it's both things at once -- it's a genuine marvel of a technology that's made serious advancements in ~2 years and ALSO never going to live up to the insane marketing and initial coverage hysteria it got. both AI skeptics and evanglists get got by this parodox.
