Interesting. I have the Reagan book by Max Boot in my queue, but at 880 pgs, I keep skipping it. Reading Emily Dickinson’s Letters in the smallest font I’ve ever seen in a book, 500 pages, and because it’s ED there’s little to no punctuation!!! Thankfully, no one is waiting for me to finish.
Two authors I really like are Garrett Graff who does oral histories of things like D-Day & the Atomic bomb and Patrick Radden Keefe who wrote Empire of Pain the ONLY book I've ever had to put down and take a walk cause I was so upset over what I was reading. The Sackler family is the absolute
fucking WORST. They all need to be chained to fire hydrants so people can walk by and spit in their faces. But it is still a GREAT book, you just may need to take some breaks now and then and pet a dog or cat.
Yes—I’ve read a few by Radden Keefe. “Rogues” and “Say Nothing” also very good. Think my favorites in the non-fiction category are Michael Lewis, Isabel Wilkerson, and Lawrence Wright.
Not familiar with Graff as an author, but I recognize him from TV. 🤪
I got into Graff clicking on C-Span 3 one afternoon and there he was blathering on about UFOs. OK, not blathering, but it pulled me in. His book was an interesting contrast to another of my fav authors Annie Wilkinson, whose most recent Nuclear War: A Scenario has left me unsettled.
