Normalcy is dead but what is happening with Newsom isn’t astroturfing because he’s exactly who the people with the money to astroturf want as a backup, should the Dems somehow attain power. And the people with the money are the entire reason we are where we are. Boarding that train takes us here.

Yep maybe in 2010 this was a smart play. There's no stops left to have side battles, no stops left to elect whomever fits a really narrow set of norms to suit everyone all at once, and no stops left for what used to be called rights to protect people. Its really that simple.
