So did rap but both had their roots in the 70s. Absolutely accept that both also evolved significantly in the 80s but I don't really feel that "counts" somehow. It's where things started that's important in this count, not when they diversified.

If we're getting down to individual authors then that's a bit too specific IMO. Pratchett's work in the 80s wasn't that great, for me. Banks was tho.
