Slightly off topic, but how do folks imagine they were worn - gap front or gap back or depends on the torc? We always assumed gap front but met someone wearing one the other way under a shirt collar and it looked very natural like that...

Interesting. A guy at Colchester Castle said it might have been a gender thing.
British ones, I think gap in front - it's where deco is & they sit comfortably on collar bones (even worn on the terminals in that spot). But several of continental ones have deco on back of neck ring, so maybe worn differently? Although, they're all shown in sculptures etc as open at the front.
As to gender, on the continent and earlier, they are def associated with the feminine in graves, etc.. and obviously also Boudica here is described as having a gold necklace/ neck ring/ torc - but then at Hochdorf and Glauberg they seem to be more masculine associated.
