Keep in mind I live in Los Angeles and there are tons of people that I could speak Spanish with. But I am so incredibly shy about it here.

EVERY TIME. verb conjugation?? never heard of her. dondé está la biblioteca
I MINORED IN SPANISH. I studied abroad! I studied sociolinguistics IN SPANISH but if a customer in my bookstore wants to know where the bathroom is, suddenly all I can do is point and mumble “aquí….? I MEAN. ALLÍ. SHIT. FUCK”
I'm a Spanish father spending a few days with his kids in Ireland. We've found a few southamerican waiters or as hotel staff, shop clerks,... and it kinds of counters what being in Ireland should be. On the other hand I'd love a local trying to say a word or two in Spanish to my kids. Keep doing it🫂
Yes! That is where my Spanish falls down every freaking time. For some reason vocabulary is fine, even sentence structure. But as soon as I have to go past, present, future, me, you, they, etc my brain just bluescreens
Mara, maybe Spanish is difficult, but we always like to help less skilled speakers. Espero que tengas un maravilloso día.
Creo que inglés es más difícil. ¡Lo es una mezcla de dos o tres idiomas! Creo que el español es como ajedrez: es fácil aprender, pero casi imposible llegar a dominar.
I am Dina, the mother of a child named Elias 💔. His small body is wasting away from malnutrition, and his eyes call out to me every day, and I am powerless to save him. I ask for your mercy and help, as his life is in danger, and any support from you may restore his hope.😞
Sorry if I bothered you, but if you could share my tweet it would help me a lot.❤️😢😢💔
My baby girl is dying of hunger. Save her before it's too late. 💔 Contribute and share so our voice can reach everyone who can save her.🥺🙏

I apologize for the inconvenience. My daughter needs food and medicine, and I cannot provide them. Can you share this post? Perhaps it will reach someone who can help. May Allah reward you and ease your worries as you eased mine.😢🙏
I am Baraa. I lost my little girl Maha to malnutrition in this war, and now my little girl Masa is sick and suffering from the same pain. I am afraid of losing her too. Please help me save what is left of my heart... Help Masa live.🥺🥺🥺
I wonder if there might be something about Spanish-speaking people in LA that makes you think they might not understand what you're saying?! Are there lots of dialectic variations of Spanish like there are of Italian?
You do seem very confident in your Spanish-speaking abilities when I see videos of you from Colombia on Instagram.
When I was 16-18 i worked at a movie theater with a large spanish speaking client base and I was busy trying to get into and ace AP spanish and I became the line everyone went through because i would try and i could understand all the orders in spanish and everyone was sooooo freakin nice.
Look at me with compassion and humanity for just one moment. My little sisters are crying from hunger. 😭😭🙏🙏🙏
My friend, I beg you, don't ignore me. We are dying of hunger. A quote from you will change the lives of 10 people. I beg you, don't ignore me. 😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏
I've worked on crews where I was the only English speaker. Should have been a great opportunity to work on my Spanish, but I was too self conscious to do it. And my co-workers were cool and supportive people. I think of that every time some asshole says, "Well why don't they learn English?".
Posiblemente porque en tu país piensas que vas a ver a esa gente más veces, y en el extranjero no. Así que es más normal ser tímida en casa.
Oh I know! Just do your best! Everyone appreciates the effort. Had a chat with un frutero about 10 minutes ago. Very kind!☺️ PSA: Street vendors and little markets need us right now. Buy from them if you can. 🙏🏻
1/ This week i made my first visit to a certain taqueria nearby. The food was fresh and well prepared, but a little bland for me.
/2 i will visit again, because the woman who greets and cashes customers also gives unsolicited correction in Spanish usage and pronunciation (in a pleasant but insistent manner), to English speakers who order in Spanish.
You need someone who will engage with you first and only in Spanish, like an aunty or a grandma!!
Why do you think that is?
I feel the same way! So proud of my hobbled Spanish when speaking abroad but feeling “ugh, I’ll sound like an idiot” when making an attempt at home. What is this feeling? Where does it come from?
¡No tengas vergüenza! 😊
Yes! It’s a totally different set of assumptions here and it makes me feel so awkward
Entiendo. Soy blanco y practico español cada oportunidad que tengo porque no hay tantas personas cerca de mi que hablan español. Vivo en Oklahoma. Odio Otto Korrekt.
