The fact that individual states choose the boundaries but the election is national highlights one problem with their democracy. The other obvious one is they elect someone to a combined president and prime minister role and it's evident that their supposed checks and balances are non existent.

There's a lot wrong with British democracy, but three things we should defend with iron determination: - no party involvement in appointing judges; - non-partisan drawing of constituency boundaries; - limited party spending by comparison with the US - though this is now very much at risk.

That last one absolutely vital. Get that wrong & surely all the rest is at risk too. The US system strikes me as a pseudo democracy at best. Maybe it was different once but it's been reduced to a system bought by billionaires to work for billionaires,the ideal feeding ground for demagogues.
