It is also important to remember that the way we sleep now is very much a new thing, for a very long time the norm was to go to bed, sleep for a while, get up and do some stuff, then go back to bed, and have a nap during the day. 8 hours straight is not how we are meant to rest.

I worked a lot of midshift/night jobs and happily went to bed around 6AM, woke up somewhere between noon and 2PM. Lots of people in my life had big opinions about that. My roommate had a girl over once who intentionally made tons of noise around the apartment because "it's time to get up."

I believe we each have a clock in our bodies that tell us when to sleep and when to awake! It’s not going to be the same for everyone! So there isn’t any good or bad! We are all different! Let’s celebrate our diversity and include each of us into our society!

I suspect it's a holdover from the days before artificial lighting was cheap and commonplace - a.k.a. agrarian days, but really anything. When you can basically only get things done during daylight hours being able to maximize that time was important. Nowadays, not so much.
