It’s kind of weird that they seem to have stopped innovating five+ years ago. The Cybertruck was years late in development & production - have they done anything since then? Most car companies have a relentless pace of innovation & new product. It just seems like they decided to give up years ago.

Hot take: Tesla suffers from Silicon Valley Stock Syndrome. Because their primary customer is investors, not people buying cars, they must constantly be on the cusp of innovation - releasing their products risks them being bad. But something that's around the corner can have infinite potential.

Very true, and the same logic applies to vaporware NFTs.

Not weird. Musk is not a scientist, not an engineer, not even smart. He borrowed money from his father, who himself has a checkered past, speculated in tech companies and got lucky. Then bought into Tesla and cut founders out. The technology is 10 years old at least and hasn’t evolved. Meme stock.

Yes, it is weird. It's as if Musk and his executives lost interest in Tesla just when it could have become the dominant car manufacturer in the country and even the world. Now they are plumping for robotaxis instead, as if taxis are so important. Some kind of infectious inability to focus?

I hate to be “that guy”, but while they have almost no new models, and none that anyone cares about, I have to grudgingly admit the cyber truck did have some innovations (48v low voltage system, steer by wire) less than two years ago.

It also cut your fingers off and is banned in more countries than it isn't

I'm not sure if adopting readily available technology is innovative. 48V debuted on Renaults a decade ago. Steer-By-Wire debuted over a decade ago on an Infiniti.

Was the Renault running accessories on 48v instead of 12v, or was that a mild hybrid system?

"At the 15th Automobil Elektronik Kongress in Ludwigsburg, the companies announced to establish a 48 V supply network supplementing the current 12 V supply." Replaced 12V. Standardized in 2011, rolled out after that.

No worries Bluesky is a safe space :) And yes, my disdain for Musk’s politics biases me I admit. I bought a Ford Lightning EV in 2023 & really like it.

I wanted the lightning in’23 but ended up in a hybrid, for now. Congratulations- that’s a great vehicle!

I really like it even though it turned out more expensive than expected & I just drive it locally, haven’t taken any long road trips yet. I like the larger size though kind of wish I got the Maverick hybrid.

Would love to see a Maverick BEV too. My obstacle on the Lightning was cost since the other thing I did that year was retire.

It's wild to think we'd have had something like that had Ford and GM not colluded to lobby both administrations to keep Chinese EVs out while selling Chinese gas vehicles to Americas. The RD6 launched about the same time as the Lightning abroad, ~25k, 250 miles range, fantastic.
