There's a new craze in bookshops around the UK... ...namely placing Boris Johnson's new memoir next to other books on lying and/or Brexit damage - or even alongside toilet paper and cat litter... Enjoy the pics! 👇

I've been doing something similar for years - putting a couple of copies of The New European or Morning Star over the Mail and Express in supermarkets or newsagents... #SmallActsOfResistance
Hilarious, I always cover his books with something else whenever I see it!
When I was much younger and Dan Quayle was preparing to run for the 1996 Republican nomination he published a book, and it became a game to make sure any copy on display in a bookstore was upside-down.
I think it’s rather minimalist and effective easier for the staff to tidy though.
Unleashed says it all
Happy to hear this is still a thing. Another airport bookshop in my sights tomorrow.
Very funny and also something quite powerful in ridicule
This particular book seems very popular for the job....so I used it.
I've been doing it myself. Conveniently, Miranda Hart's memoirs are generally somewhere in the vicinity.
I got great pleasure in mixing Unleashed with Unhinged in a certain large chain bookshop. The security guy thought it was quite funny.
He he he
Is that why he's coming back from Australia? To rearrange the rearranged book shelves?
Comedy Gold. Blessed are the booksellers, for they taketh the piss mightily.
Didn't know bookshops sold toilet roll.
Reminds me of Jane McGonigal’s placing 1984 in Current Events while W was prez.
Love this! Evidence of British humour is the only thing I miss about the other place 😃
In Waterstone's in Colchester a couple of weeks back I moved a copy to the crime fiction section. Didn't take a pic though, sadly.
True Crime section though surely more appropriate?
You're right. Didn't think it through enough...🤣
Love this. A rather British rebellion. It’s what we do so well. But we need to take it up a notch
Can't stop laughing
I did this a few weeks ago in Tesco 😄. Never thought to take a pic though
Couldn't resist rearranging a couple of books in a Plymouth book shop a couple of weeks ago 🤫
I will order Angela Merkel
Hubby liked to place a few copies with the firelighters.. He calls it the Kindling Edition.
Gem is an absolute legend! 💎 @gemmagould.bsky.social ❤️👏👏👏🥊😘
I just adore you Marty you sir are magnificent ♥️🫶🏻😘
Must photograph those i do
I saw it in Southwold Waterstones the other week. It was disgracefully placed next to Alexei Navalny's Patriot. Shouldn't have been in the same building let alone on the same shelf!
👏👏👏
I just usually put something more interesting to read in front of it.
🤣
And perhaps tucked on the top of shelves at the back so they are out of reach? Seriously this might become an “ under the counter” purchase for those so inclined - like the old days.
Not done that, but I did turn the smug a***'s visage round in the local Asda the other day. They're charging £15 for his BS. Asda must be mad.
This is a fabulous article by @gemmagould.bsky.social I saw these when shopping -
Wonderful.
I can’t help myself Mike. Every time I see his book I have to cover it with another one or just hide it. So glad it’s not just me
I’ve been doing it at every opportunity 🙋♀️
Bravo @gemmagould.bsky.social !
Thank you Kev 🙏🏻 you are as ever the G O A T !
Enjoyed putting his book in the fiction section this morning 😬
Think this is my personal favourite
Wish we'd seen it! Nice job!
Bloody brilliant!
😂😂😂
It’s why i never worry about UK, fundamentally our humour will see us all ok !
Damn, I've only been moving it to the New Fiction shelf...
🤣
In 1989 I accompanied Harvard University legend John Kenneth Galbraith to local Boston bookstore. I learned of his habit of rearranging book displays to make sly political statements. On one end cap he prominently placed these two books next each other, chuckled, and then solicited my approval.
🤣
🤣
Someone mentioned that they couldn't even give the book away for free.
I am looking forward to seeing it in the sales book bin. Even then i won’t touch it.
I must confess I’ve been guilty of turning them around so shoppers aren’t confronted with that pasty faced, deliberately untidy, waste of air’s picture
it keeps linking to teatter
I have done it too
It’s such a nerdy thing to do, and I am absolutely here for it 😂💛 #BookwormsUniteAgainstBoris ✊
Old news. Where have you been? Gracious!
Every time I see it I cover it with other books
Can we place art of the deal next to a picture of Al Capone?
I had to buy this for an Xmas gift this year. Jesus, the embarrassment. Bought in Waterstones in Edinburgh (already reduced to £15)... couldn't be seen to pick this crap up in my own home town, obviously.
Why are you giving free publicity to this ghoul of a man? His book shouldn’t be anywhere near a shelf, let alone part of some craze. Why do people never learn? Feels the same like the BBC giving Farage more airtime than the Lib Dems and the Greens 😮💨
I turn them round, upside down then hide them behind other books, always.
I asked my local Waterstones how many sold, they said 2. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
My partner made the valid point that he would not sully his hands by even touching the bumbling idiots' book.
It's gloriously petty and so terribly British. Love it 👍
My personal favourite: WHSmith (!) at Stansted airport a while ago
When you know … 😉
Brilliant! And in response the failed bookseller is allowing the MSM to massage his overinflated ego and they bend over backwards to give him more airtime...thats not right, is it?
Thought I’d rearrange the books at my local Asda a couple of months ago.
👏
Even toilet paper worth more than that book.
I’ve been doing something similar for some time. I seem to remember doing the same with Thatcher. With the Boris ones I was a bit disappointed when I turned them round on the shelf that his ugly mug graces the back cover too 😒
I loved the craze a while ago when it was in supermarkets of placing it amongst the toilet rolls 😂 Of course I'd never do such a thing myself... Well maybe 🤔
Cat litter the winner.
Why stock it at all?
