It’s about context. Casually, conversationally, that’s absolutely correct. In academic writing, which is the perspective Harvard is coming from, it’s more correct to have a complete idea in one sentence as opposed to an idea spread across two sentences connected by a clause.

Seems a bit weird to comment on specific language errors at all. Maybe in secondary school. For an academic paper the actual errors, like assets vs GDP, would be pointed out with a general suggestion to look over language.
