I don't agree with you. I could simply move on and not respond but I have a really strong aversion to trial by media/trial by public sentiment. The application of the law is an area where public sentiment can be problematical. Fascism is too quick to exploit the public appetite for revenge.
I have no doubt that domestic violence cases have been badly handled in the past. But making an example of a single individual is redolent of blind revenge as opposed to a thoughtful redress of a systemic bias.
Surely the point of punishment is for society to protect itself against the occurrence/recurrence of damaging events? In DMV I agree that the law appears not to have kept up with changed societal expectations.
