I had an important appointment today. I’ve been feeling bluesy so I laid out a “hapoy outfit” to wear. I wore my Reading Rainbow T-shirt. I got so MANY comments! So many folk told me how happy that show made them (me too). LeVar Burton did so much good for little Black children but also for others.
My mom taught first grade. She was a huge fan of Reading Rainbow!
Awww Teaching small children and being kind to them is about as close to touching the face of God that a person can get.💚💚💚🧡
I'm white, and I used to watch Reading Rainbow with my kids. I can't say I thought every episode was great, since my taste runs to high adventure mixed with low comedy; but I did and do admire LeVar Burton.

I told one of the ladies that approached me about this podcast! I couldn’t remember the name. But I told her to lol where she listens to podcasts for him!
It’s an absolute favorite. He creates such a welcoming, intimate space for listeners (that deep cleansing breath to start!) & his short story selections are always *amazing*

Speaking as a white fan of his work, Reading Rainbow was formative. I've helped a lot of people over the years. Dedicated my life to intersectional feminist activism. Without his influence, things could have been very different.
I used to show Reading Rainbow when my class had to have indoor lunch recess.
That was one of my absolute favorite shows as a child. I learned SO MUCH from that man and that amazing show. 🩷
