I dug the turf up at the front of ours and planted wildflowers. Bloody great, no mowing, loads of insects and a drive-through for bats.

That's the dream. If it wasn't for the kids and their gymnastics routines I'd do the same

I think there's a narrow expectation of what a grass lawn looks like. This is a typical patch of ours, hasn't been cut for 4 weeks. The flowers attract insects, hedgehogs roam across at night and birds eat the seeds, we also have bats. I call this a grass lawn and the kids played on it when younger.

I'm sure it would give some people kittens to see it. We did replace one hard to mow area with wildflowers and wild grasses have also grown there so it now looks similar to our lawn

Good stuff. Our neighbours cut their bit of the shared garden like a pool table. No insects or birds: they're moving out next month, can't wait.

Our neighbours also appear to be mowing less this year. It could be that the dry Spring makes it pointless. The look I go for is vaguely rural meadow, maybe I don't quite achieve it but we see lots of wildlife, hope you see it too soon
