I agree and I am glad I was born when I was but can only pray for my children and their families for the world stability has deteriorated since the end of the cold war with the role of the USA as guardian increasingly declining and now culminated in the appointment of a demented asinine leader.

Exactly, I totally agree. TA's article really brought the reality home to me.

I look at my new born great nephew and realise he will be 75 at the turn of the Century all being well. The changes he will see are mind boggling. The risk we face now let alone over the next 75 years is absolutely terrifying - especially if you think of them as occurring simultaneously.

It is so important that we know all that we do about countries like China and Russia, but that knowledge can be very difficult to take on board and makes one feel quite helpless at times. It sort of reminds me of those who want to have their DNA analysed to find out about their bodily

vulnerabilities. How long will they live or are they going to die of some incurable genetic disorder. Isn't it better not to know and just get on and make the most of life?

Eh, I see both sides, esp if there are proven things that can be done to combat whatever illness it is. I do agree with the jist, though, people live with worries of the million ways something can work out, and life has shown me it usually lands somewhere we can't forsee anyway. Lol

I go back to my youth. I was aware of the bay of pigs & cuban missile crisis. We lived in San Diego (aka Ground Zero). My family was heavily military. We did the duck & cover drills at school and the air raid sirens were tested every Monday at noon. Are today's issues really more frightening?

I grew up in the UK when for many years we were constantly reminded one way or another that we were only 15 mins from oblivion if Russia felt like it. Then it was the only major threat now we have many more dictatorships all with nuclear weapons with several ruled by mentally disturbed people.

I have often thought this last decade or so if the world can hold off destroying itself militarily long enough then climate change, or rather the lack of cohesive global will to combat it, will do it anyway for nature has had enough and it's payback time.

There's still hope. Look at what we did with CFCs and the Ozone layer... it can be done, and I feel like Gen A are MUCH less apt to negotiate on those things.

I quietly subscribe to the theory that the human race is a virus that is eating its host, and its host is about to make a serious effort to expunge the infection. It’s been waiting for the Sun to help it along. Volcanic death in clouds of dust await us all …. It’s a theory. 🫢
